Privacy policy
How Borderpost handles data. Short version: we run a lean static site, measure readership with Google Analytics, do not sell your data, and use any email you give us only to send the updates you asked for.
Borderpost is a static information site. We collect as little as possible and we do not sell personal data. This page explains, in plain terms, what happens when you use the site. Last updated October 9, 2026.
What we collect
If you subscribe to the border bulletin, we store the email address you provide so we can send the updates you asked for; you can unsubscribe at any time. Like most sites, our hosting may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and to understand aggregate traffic. For readership figures we use Google Analytics, explained below, with its advertising features switched off.
Google Analytics and consent
Borderpost uses Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd.). It shows us pages viewed, referring sites, approximate location to city or country level, device and browser type, and session timing. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation are disabled; the data is not used for advertising and is not sold.
Because rules differ by region, so does how we ask. If you are in Europe — the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, which we read from your device's time zone — a banner asks first, and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept. Elsewhere, analytics is on by default and you can switch it off at any time. A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is treated as an opt-out. Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, lasting up to two years, and only after analytics is allowed. Your choice itself sits in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent, not in a cookie.
Change your analytics choice at any time to reopen the banner. See Google's privacy policy for Google's practices, or install Google's opt-out add-on to block Google Analytics in your browser.
Affiliate links and third parties
Some outbound links are affiliate links. When you click one, the destination exchange may set its own cookies and will apply its own privacy policy, which we do not control — read theirs before signing up. Our approach to those links is set out on the affiliate disclosure page. We do not place third-party advertising trackers to follow you around the web.
Your choices
You can browse Borderpost without giving us any personal information, and switch analytics off at any time. If you have subscribed and want your email removed, use the unsubscribe link or contact the desk and we will delete it. Because crypto is a regulated, sensitive area, we keep data handling deliberately minimal.
